Last month of June, it took place the fourth trial flights phase of separation of waste on board. This phase was developed in 10 Iberia flights:

  • 06.06.2018 – Madrid – Barcelona – Madrid (IB0830 – IB1101)

  • 08.06.2018 – Madrid – Stockholm – Madrid (IB3314 – IB3315)

  • 11.06.2018 – Madrid – Prague – Madrid (IB3148 – IB3149)

  • 19.06.2018 – Madrid – Paris – Madrid (IB3436 – IB3435)

  • 28.06.2018 – Madrid – Brussels – Madrid (IB3206 – IB3203)

This fourth trial phase evaluated the suitability of the last designed trolley prototype, which allows to classify the waste into two categories: recyclable waste (mainly packaging and paper) and non-recyclable waste (organic matter and other residues). In addition, this trolley prototype has the advantage that each compartment is adjusted to the amount of waste it gathers since there is not a physical barrier separating each compartment.

As in the other trial phases, the indicators collected to evaluate the trials were: the amount of waste generated, the quality of the separation and the observations of Iberia crew and the catering operators.

Overall, the results obtained from this fourth trial phase have been very positive and thanks to the collaboration of Iberia’s crew, only in this last trial, more than 66kg of waste have been recycled.
