Next week, the third on-board waste separation test begins with a new prototype of two-compartment trolley. Each flight will carry two trolleys of this type, one for the economy class and another for business. These are the 10 selected Iberia flights:

  • 13.03.2018 – Madrid – Barcelona – Madrid

  • 19.03.2018 – Madrid – Hamburg – Madrid

  • 21.03.2018 – Madrid – Marrakech – Madrid

  • 22.03.2018 – Madrid – London – Madrid

  • 23.03.2018 – Madrid – Paris – Madrid

In this test, trolleys with 2 elongated buckets inside will be used, one for Recyclable waste (mainly light packaging) and one for Non-Recyclable waste (organic matter and other non-recyclable waste).

The main objectives of this third test are:

  • 1. Check the functionality of the new trolley prototype.

  • 2. Evaluate the suitability of the identification stickers used: recyclable / non-recyclable, as this time a list of waste and its pictograms has been added.

  • 3. Evaluate the ease of following the separation protocol in both tourist and business class.

In this sense, after each flight, the quantity and quality of the separated waste will be recorded once the trolleys arrive at the Gate Gourmet facilities and the crew feedback will be obtained.
