Dr. Alba Bala presented the European project LIFE + Zero Cabin Waste (ZCW) on aircraft cabin waste management in the symposium “Waste management: towards a circular economy”, which took place on October 27 at the University of Cantabria.

The Development of Chemical Processes and Pollutant Control group at the University of Cantabria (UC) organised the IV Symposium of the Spanish Network of Life Cycle focused on the measurement of the environmental impacts from a l life cycle assessment and circular economy perspective. The purpose of the symposium was providing knowledge related to the management and treatment of municipal or industrial waste, as well as its valuation using a circular economy approach.

Dr. Alba Bala, leader of the Waste Management Research Line of the UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change, participated in the first session about “Management of urban solid waste”. The researcher presented the European project LIFE + Zero Cabin Waste (ZCW), focused on aircraft cabin waste management that provides a basis for creating a sustainable model to reduce, reuse and recycle (including energy recovery) this type of waste.

In addition, the symposium had two more sessions devoted to the “Recovery of waste in the agri-food industry” and the “Application of the circular economy approach”. It was a great opportunity to meet other projects related to waste management and life cycle analysis.
